Liberty, Part One in  Political Poems

Part one begins where it ends, in the deceiving,
I know. Your side-arm is slipping, battle
lines are drawing nearer, soon there'll be federal
funding afoot. Think of the jobs!

I'm the girl on the corner
crying, dropped my gym shoes in mud,
fucking befuddled it's come to this,
that fifth grade could be so hard,
back where I started

what happens in the womb
stays in the womb until it rots with cancer.

We shall be great if only for a short time.

Your side-arm is slipping. Battle, I know.
My chalk lines have washed away, a garden
hose for every patriot. Everything which is
not for the children is for the children;
it is the only way.
